Applied Focusing
Ten Month Course
using
Domain Focusing: the 3 Logics of Growth
2nd Workshop is Sunday, June 15, 2008,
4-8p
Taught by Robert L. Lee, Ph.D.
This is the second Tenmonth course in a focusing
training program leading to certification.* This course is also
ideal for advanced focusers and focusing trainers/FOT's who want
more training in the use of focusing as a practitioner.
Kinds of Applying Focusing:
1. To a personal growth project
2. To your professional field or field of special interest.
3. Teaching Focusing
4. Developing a focusing oriented field
Project Development:
Each person in the course will design and carry out a project
for applying focusing. These projects are for facilitating your
entry into focusing not for satisfying an external requirement.
Practice Using Focusing Professionally:
Each workshop will present some basic ways for using focusing
professionally. You need to plan some practice using these basic
ways in some way related to your project. The two most common
ways: work with a client; or find someone who volunteers to be
your student for 4 sessions, but there are other ways as well.
To prepare for these "real" applications you can use "undervisioning"
with your weekly focusing partner from the course for the last
third of your focusing partnership sessions. See description under
Conference Call Groups below.
Applied Focusing via 3 person 3 hour (3p3h)
Groups:
There are four 3p3h or 4p4h groups. Two of these are with Robert
Lee. Two are with staff. These workshops give you direct experience
of applied focusing both in receiving and in watching. They also
give us a chance to work directly with your focusing process and
to make suggestions and/or interventions. These sessions are in
in-person.
Coaching - monthly coaching sessions (10
of these). 9 of these are with the assistants. These are 1:2 with
your partner of the cycle for 1.5 hours, or 1:3 for 2 hours. The
sessions can be in support of the teaching, the project, or something
in the way of those going forward including personal or professional
situations. One of these is with Robert Lee . These sessions may
occur on the phone.
Workshops: There are five 5-hour workshops
which happen every two months. The workshops prepare you for further
professional application and will further the development of your
project.
Workshop Themes:
1. Project Development and Undervisioning (egalitarian supervision)
as a supportive Process
2. Application in Phase 1:Getting Started and Phase 2:Domain Linking
3. Application in Phase 3: Entering and Phase 4: Shifting
4. Developing Colleagueal Community in the Focusing World via
your Project.
5. Application with difficult situations --depression, trauma,
anxiety, disassociation, learning disability-ADD,
negativity, low self-image, physical illness,
spiritual crisis
Conference Call Groups: There are 5 conference
call groups typically occurring one month after each workshop.
These are led by Robert Lee. On the calls, we will have "undervisioning"
(egalitarian supervision) regarding application efforts or projects
or something in the way of going forward with those. In "undervisioning",
after 2/3 of the session the listener proposes one or more places
for going further, and, if one of those is accepted, the listener
has a more active role in the last third of the session.
Focusing Partnership: Each person will
maintain at least weekly partnership. You can find a partner outside
the group (possibly related to your project) and stay with that
person as long as you want or you can partner with someone within
the group and alternate at workshops. Having some experience of
both during the course would be ideal.
Cost of course: $1500 (includes membership
in TFI as a Trainer in Training)
Payment: is normally made in one or two
portions.
Double Backup plan for recovering missed workshops!
You can purchase a DVD of the workshop at cost ($27.50) and/or
you can make-up the workshop at no additional fee in a subsequent
course of this kind.
Refunds/Withdrawals: In the unexpected
event where you have to withdraw, we calculate the proportion
of the five 5 hour workshops and four 3p3h workshops which have
been offered at the point of notification and we add a 15% penalty
($225) for withdrawal. Refund or additional payment by yourself
is calculated in that way.
Robert L. Lee, Ph.D. is a focusing theoretician
and innovator. The last 6 years he has organized 7 focusing training
groups and a post-trainer group. Three of the training groups
were for psychotherapists, four were for professionals of various
kinds. A licensed psychologist, Lee has developed a new model
for teaching focusing (Domain Focusing), he has developed a theory
and practice for change on the macro level for stubborn problems
(Changing the Unchangeable), he has developed a comprehensive
practice for working with difficulties in felt sense formation
(Elusive Felt Sensing). He has developed special methods for using
focusing in couples' therapy and in group therapy; he has applied
focusing to Quaker spirituality and to physical problems.
*For people pursuing certification, this course
often follows a Tenmonth course in focusing partnership and is
followed by the Weeklong for Advanced and Certification Training
as the third piece for completing certification. Someone with
50 hours of focusing workshops and 50 hours of independent partnership
exchange may be able to opt out of the first course with permission
of the instructor. This program is under the direction of Robert
L. Lee, Ph.D. Certifying Coordinator for the Focusing Institute.
