Acting Into The Situation
Domain Focusing (the model of focusing developed
by Robert L. Lee) presents three functions or logics as 3 domains
of focusing. The logics are thinking, experiencing, and loving.
The names for Domains are: Issue/Situation; Exploring Felt Sensing;
Self-Empathy. Focusing involves starting from any of these
logics and knowing how to link to the other logics. It
involves entering any of these logics as a way to bring
the shifting (occurring into the implying) that is so hopeful
for humanity and life. It elaborates acting into (new) as the
refining of an action step out of the new possibilities arising
from the shift, then acting into the situation (actually
doing the step), and following the steps in the situation such
that you are engaging with a "situational body" similarly to engaging
with your body in focusing. Starting from, linking, entering,
shifting, acting into are the 5 phases of Domain Focusing.
These phases fit with and parallel the 6 steps
of Gendlin, though not exactly and with new elaborations. My starting
from phase parallels his Step 1 (Clearing a Space) and my
linking phase parallels his Step 2 (letting a felt sense
form). My entering phase fits Gendlin's Step 3 and 4 (getting
a handle and resonating), and my shifting phase fits with
step 5 and 6 (asking and receiving). Acting into the situation
parallels what would be a 7th step in Gendlin's 6 step model.
In the workshop on Acting Into the Situation,
we will work on understanding the process of this new phase by
remembering times where you stayed in process with an emerging
situation coming out of an action step you took. We will also
find an action step for a situation you want to act into. That
step will come out of our focusing. We will be rehearsing how
to stay with the situational body once you have acted into the
situation.
